I can only imagine from the huge success of AdSense on my sites how big the double-whammy (pun intended) of both the AdSense dollars AND the loss of traffic from a top position must be affecting many of us.
What are some ideas to maximize AdSense and traffic? Does the AdWords > AdSense dollar exchange work? In other words if I buy great AdWords placement do you think much of it can be recouped with AdSense? Your comments on this sort of plan?

Probably not, IMHO. Remember that you're paying for every AdWord that gets clicked, but only a fraction of the visitors who click through to your site will click on AdSense ads.
Nope - at least not in my niche. I have no idea how this could work in other niches / topics. People will rarely click on an AdWords ad, go to your site just to click on an ad again. And having low price ads that lead to a page that offers higher price ads and people click on them is wishfull thinking imo.
What *could* work is running a page/site where the only information / outgoing links are AdSense links. But this is - at least for standard publishers - against the tos.

Probably not. You pay $x.xx for the Adwords ad. Someone clicks on that, you pay. Chances are somewhat less that 100% that he will click on an Adsense ad. Then the money from the Adsense ad is divided between you and Google. I don't know the split, but you get less than 100%. So if the Adwords you buy cost about the same per click as the Adword someone else buy that appear on your site, you will lose.
Sometimes you can get a low cost keyword for Adwords that is cheaper than the average epc you get. In that case, if the click through rate is sufficient, you might make some money.
You can also use Adwords to introduce a new site, losing some money while the traffic builds up and you get good placement on the search engines. Then you stop your Adwords.
Also, if you sell products from your site the Adwords may pay off.
It does seem that an AdWords campaign must stand on it's own and the idea of an even exchange of monies between the two programs is pretty far fetched. My Dad always said think before you talk... I obviously didn't heed his advice! Thanks folks.
Not so far fetched if you used AdWords to direct traffic to one site that linked out to multiple compelling sites running AdSense. I would think a crafty traffic cop could still get a check from Google.
