Just wondering if anyone lives off their website on these forums?

Yes, but AdSense is only one source of revenue for the site.

Man does not live by Adsense alone. (Or woman :)).

However, it is a useful side income for us that we use to buy the occasional goodie for the office.

Well Marco, let's hope that Adsense revenues don't fall...

Seriously, don't you have any other revenue streams at all? Tell Google your story, that way they may feel too guilty to drop payments in the future! :)

Dayjob paying the mortgage and living expenses.... boring.
Other ad networks paying for dinner and movies.... nice.
Adsense paying for my new laptop.....Priceless! :)

Could live off Adsense but can't kick the day job yet as I can't rely on Adsense as the only source of income.

Live off commissions generated by websites.

Adsense is paying off student loans, and when they are done, will pay for a Canon D10 camera. Can't wait.

Paying towards my wedding in yankyland next year. I'm planning on sending Google a piece of Wedding Cake. :)

lol - I have calculated for me to pay off my prospective student loan just from adsense, I will need to keep chugging along at the same rate for 55 years. If I increased my traffic to similar *popular* sites in my genre, I would pay it off in 50 days!
I guess I just need to get the site really popular, but it could go either way, I could get near to making a nice profit, or have it crash down around me :(

I guess you lot don't care since you all seem to be loaded off it!

Yup, I live off my web business very nicely. Adsense is about 18% of my revenue.

I don't know about 'living off' my website... it seems more like 'dying off' my website. Mind you I used to work for a newspaper as a trilingual reporter / industry analyst and they paid me less, all things considered... I think the only time you can feel you're making money is when you're too stupid to realise you're being exploited or too evil to care that you're exploiting others... I think more people should read and learn from "Das Kapital"...

and compare and contrast with "Wealth of Nations"...

yes.com, i.com also.com live.com on.com my.com internet.com earnings.com :D

adsense this month contributed 40% of earnings, but it's slowing down real quick for some reason. CTRs have fallen 50% over the last one week <sniff sniff>.

For those of us, who find it difficult to monetise our site space, adsense is like a boon in disguise.

I doubt, if any affiliate programs out there can make any bucks, while Google also offers us to monetise any kind of website of any topic as long as its acceptable by G!

Cheers

I think the real strength of AdSense is its ability to monetize pages on a content site that otherwise would be "loss leaders." Let's say you've got an editorial site about travel in Australia and you've got affiliate links for hotel-reservation services, car rentals, etc. Now you decide to write the occasional article on diving tours along the Great Barrier Reef. In the normal scheme of things, you might not make much money off those articles because people who buy diving tours won't need the services for indepndent travelers that your affiliate partners provide. With AdSense, you're likely to see ads for diving tours appear on those pages, which means those pages will pay for the time you spent on them (and then some).

I made a very good living from my site before AdSense and have simply increased revenues by working with Google (about 25-35% from G). I started my site in 1998 and have run my company full time (sole source of revenue) since early 2002.

wonderboy, I do like your instincts though. I think many people that post here are newer to the Internet (as a business). It makes me laugh to see the speculation, wishful thinking and completely baseless statements that get posted and debated here. There are a handful of people who post here that I respect and whom I believe make money from there web business. These guys usually stick to facts or back up there statements with intelligent prose.
