Just did some search engine evaluations.

At a querry giving only 3 answers, I discovered a page, copying my text completely.

Left, right, above and below AdSense ads, Ebay and ohter ads.

In the middle labeled as text preview,
the complete text of my page including all the text occuring in navigation links and a link to my page

According to my referer logs, this link brought 54 visitors.

What would You do

a) ignore
b) something else

You file a DMCA complaint against them with the search engines.

Just takes a few minutes, ends their free ride.

Check out who their Web Hosting company is and report them to the Web Hosting company for copyright infringement asap. Show them your page and the ones they copied. Also, submit a complaint to Google. Submit the complete URL or name of Web site.

Something should happen fast.

If you send notice to the ISP before the search engines are notified you can shoot yourself in the foot as they'll report "nothing online to see" and possibly ignore your request.

If you do it in this order, you might want to link to cache pages in search engines or the WayBack Machine to show the copyright infringement as further proof.

This is why I have been putting a small CopyScape banner at the top right corner of every page linking to my copyright warning page detailing all the scumbags I've C&D'd and DMCA'd out of commission. Most of them in other countries. My custom made C & D really scares the hell out of them. I shut down one guy that had 22 sites running YPN ads who copied my website.

When content thieves see this, they figure it's too much trouble to them to try and copy me and they move on to an easier victim. A burglar isn't going to rob your house when he see's you sitting on the front porch with a shotgun and a Rottweiler.

So far, it's been working pretty good. It doesn't block scrapers of course, but I haven't had anymore full page content thieves.
