When did Adsense start only putting 1 or 2 ads per page?

Ok, I admit, I haven't looked at my adsense sites for a while, they basically run themselves and I have been more concerned with trying out YPN and the christmas affiliate rush.

When I checked on my site today, all the ad units (I use the large rect.) were showing only 1 or 2 ads each. Every page. Nothing had 4 ads anymore, not even 3! I looked at a few other sites with adsense and all of the ones with the large rectangle had only 2 ads. When did this happen? Is there anyway I can get the 4 ads back?
