I'm developing a site at home and today I realised that I'm getting ads delivered depending on the keywords that are in the url. But it's not that simple.

Let's say I have a site about greatpresidents. Then greatpresidents/lincoln/ will display relevant ads about lincoln. greatpresidents/lincoln/childhood/ can display ads about lincoln but also about childhood in general. And greatpresidents/france/ won't display ads about great french presidents but about traveling to france. greatpresidents/france/italy/ about traveling to italy. These however are not relevant to my topic.

Anyone has more insight in what determines the type of ads google will display? It doesn't seem like my h1 nor title tag is read. Content seems to be ignored too.

My current theory is that if the page has not been spidered by the Mediapartners bot, you will get ads based upon a guess. The guess seems to be based on the most popular keywords on your site as well as keywords in the url. I find that the ad block in this case says: "Ads by Google".

Once the page has been spidered, I seem to get more context relevent ads, and the adblocks say: "Ads by Goooooooooogle".

Hope this helps.
