What is a lead?

He comes to the web site, clicks on the ad, visits the advertisier, clicks contact, talks with a sales man, makes the purchase.

I made once a special web site for a medical treatment device. I put my telephone number on the site, the email address was set to deliver to me and the company.

I dreamed from 7% sales comission for a 10,000.-EUR device would be my rent.

But it turned out complete different. Mostly patients had been visiting this site. Nearly no doctors.

What happened?

The patients went to their doctors "Doctor, I have seen in the internet a new treatment, do You have it"

Some month later, maybe a traveling salesman of the country branch of this medical company went to the doctor.

"We have here a new treatment device...."

The doctor looks on the prospect, damned, that's exactly the device where already 3 patients had ask him about.

He signs after a short talk the contract.

So where are the 7% for my lead?

Extremely complicated to put into action and verify.

Ask anyone who has created an affiliate program and then try and apply something similar to "small" retail Internet sites...nightmaresville...

Would you pay a commission if you knew you could get away without doing so?

well.. HMMM! there are like sites out there dedicated to bundeling together sites and give you lead money only (no pay per click)

why would not google have these resources?!

Do I assume you are referring to popular mainstream, branded items?

That in itself is not complicated however consider this scenario.

My sites are about niche construction products and the ads reflect those suppliers throughout the GoogleWorld.

The average retail sales price for just one of my products is about USD 5,000.00 and I do know of several companies which are selling as many as one hundred of these a week and many are selling ten per week.

The problem is, like jetteroheller said:

How will you know whether or not that seller is being honest with you?

I can assure you that I would love to have just an extra 1% commission from all the orders from my site advertisers but it ain't going to happen since no one can monitor it.
