Assigning 'tabindex's to AdLink ads

Is it allowed?

Hi there,

I am considering assigning my AdLink ads 'tabindex' values.
This would not be a way to 'trick' people into clicking on the ads. My site uses many forms, which people often navigate using the Tab button, and at the bottom of the forms I sometimes place a horizontal AdLink unit.
I was just considering assigning the actual linked keywords tabindex values so that from the last 'input' in the form they would go directly to the ads themselves: at the moment when advancing using Tab, the first one is the entire unit, then Ads By Google, then the first actual Ad.

By the way, I would be doing this with DHTML. It is not possible with normal HTML as you cannot access the ads themselves directly.

Anyway, is this allowed or not? As I said, it's not a way of trying to 'trick' people into clicking the ads.

Thanks,
GS

I'm sorry but then what is it? One can easily make an accidental click if you make the links selectable by the TAB key, especially on a page full of forms.

You seem to be quite clever to notice that it IS to confuse people and to make you some undeserved money. No offense but I just can't get what it is for otherwise and how come someone at your skill level can ask such a question.

the OP's suggestion is not necessarily an attempt to 'trick' users into clicking. moving the mouse cursor around and then clicking the mouse button is one way of navigating on the internet. using tab and hitting "enter" is another.

with that said, it may lead to some unintentional clicks. you might think that the unintentional clicks will be in your favor, but in fact the converse is likely the case. the unintended clicks will certainly convert very poorly, and this fact may come back to bite you in the form of smart pricing.

it is actually in a publisher's best interest to make the ads very visible, but you only want a click if the user is really interested - this way you get better conversions.

so, IMO i would recommend against it, but if you are set on doing it, i would certainly ask adsense support.

Thanks elsewhen!

Yeah, I just mean that if they are using the Tab button, they have to get past those ad links anyway, so I was just planning on eliminating 2 unnecessary Tab presses - get straight to the good stuff ;-)

I'll think on it.
