Finally, more than a month later I politely followed up with regular support asking the status.
Immediately, I got a reply that my current account is a better match for me than Premium would be (unsubtle way of saying "no").
If 20 million+ content page views per month is not the only things they are looking for, then what is it exactly? The traffic quality is apparently good by Google's measurements (our smart pricing hasn't been down for a long time).
I'm just wondering if I was rejected because I'm serving all of my USA traffic to YPN and they don't know how much traffic I'm actually receiving? Anyone have any experience with this, I'd love to know. If you aren't comfortable posting in the thread, a sticky would be greatly appreciated.
If that is true then the Google rep that made that call is working directly against his company's best interest, they should try to lure you in not push you away. How many impressions % are you sending them? Is your size verifiable say on Alexa for example?
Since no one really knows anything about anything involving AdSense, who's to say you would do better as a premium publisher? The revenue split may not be as favorable, since generally one gets a premium for highly-targeted content not for huge undifferentiated numbers.
Maybe the Google rep was giving you good advice.
So, from Google's point of view, if they feel that you are working better for them as you are with regular AdSense, or in reality there is no flexibility to negotiate in your sector, then there's probably not an incentive to "move you over".
As already mentioned, most Premium Publishers are actually very high traffic websites which have for a variety of reasons poor or difficult automatic contextual targetting.

If mediabot is targetting your site well, and you're not in a saturated market in terms of ads, I would say that's a fair response.
TJ
It's 20,000,000 page views, per month, and from a single site (and not forum page views either).
The site's relatively well-known, and I prefer to keep my identity anonymous (ironically, for the sake of being able to be more open), so I can't give out the URL.
TJ, your response made sense, I guess. I just wish they'd list the criteria more clearly on their application form. From Google's point of view, I guess I understand, just don't get what the negatives would be with adding new members that aren't newspapers. My main reason for wanting to join is because I'm opening a new site soon that could really, really benefit from the flexible ad unit sizes.
Hobbs, yes. We're ranked very high on Alexa. Even better is that we use Google Analytics, so they have that data (in addition to their own toolbar data).
Perhaps reapplying might be successful once you have a few months of consistent traffic well in excess of 20m?
Being a premium publisher wouldn't help you. You can only use the premium publisher tools and services on the site that achieves the premium publisher status.
We too exceed what we believed to be the AS Premium criteria, and mailed them, twice.
So far some many weeks later, no responce.
Based on no reply we have chosen to review our AS ussage and allocate our traffic to other advertizers.
Poor show Google: no reply to good customers.
Is there a lesson here I wonder.....
