The color scheme possibilities (and the psychology that goes along with that) for the ad layouts fascinate me.

Like many here, I've experimented with lots of different ad layouts/palettes in search for a combination that works best for a particular page.

What is interesting to me is that Google, Yahoo! and MSN all use for their default palette (with slight variation in the color hues, and against a white background) the combo:

blue title
black text
green URL

The blue link color for the title is obvious, but why green for the URL? Aside from it offering a contrast in color, maybe it's because green means "GO!"

Yes, that's classic marketing psychology. Red means stop. They've done countless studies. Similar example, my Marketing teacher in college told us that no matter what else is done, put a picture at the end of a tv ad of someone calling the number that you drill into their heads and the number of calls you'll get go up significantly. Each and every time.
