If when signing up for Adsense you selected Google Search as well as Adsense for content will you get penalised if don't have google search on your site?

Do people think it's worth having or does it take people away from your site for little return?

Thanks in advance.

you don't have to use it if you don't want to - the choice is yours.

Is it worth it? I didn't think so

It won't take people away from your site unless the information they need isn't on your site, in which case they'll be leaving anyway. And if they leave, so what? A good, useful site will attract repeat visitors.

I just made 100 US this month with AdSense for search. The increase in keywords that just hit advertisers is finally starting to trickle down to publishers. If you have a large site, it is definitely worth it to include with the regular ads. Now if they would only let us customize that search box! Sigh.

You don't have to use it, even if you signed up for it.

I tried it and found the SERPs pages way too ugly and not matching my site design, so I decided to remove the search code again. Never had any problems with Google, not before and not after removing the code.

This month, the search generates about 50% more income than before.

That's still only 1.5% of total revenues, but is there anything better for this space?

The prime space this takes up I could sell for substantially more than 1.5%, it would have to be nearer 25% of an average month!

Potentially very good, application terrible in my opinion.

Well I have been running it for 8 months and provides between 10 - 15% of adsense income .
The best pages I have found are those that due to smartpricing I no longer run adsense on so it is the only other G offering I use except for adsense

Different sites find different parts of G offering work some like adlinks some like referrals etc. so it's a horses for courses situation

To those thinking of trying it is worth giving it a go but only test for 2 weeks if you can make more with other forms of advertising then take it back off

10 - 15% of adsense income

Wow...I couldn't even get 10-15 clicks!

Of course, you're correct, horses for courses.

A pretty dumb question, but do we get paid for a visitor just searching a word, or for the clicks on sites he does on the search results. I mean to ask, if he visits two sites from the results, does it mean twice the money. Also, do we get paid for search within our site..

The CTR and the reveues are very-very low on the Google Adsense for search as compared to Adsense for content...not worth but still better than using google simple search on your site.

Question on Google Search.........

If I have a domain with only the home page of the website on it, and, (for reasons too long to go into here), the rest of the webpages are in my blog domain, (and will stay there), will putting Google Search on my home page ONLY search my home page - and not the other pages in the blog domain?

I use it because I need a site search, and the Google offering suits my individual needs. I used it before Adsense, and now I get a few bucks per month out of it.

The good thing about the search option is that it doesn't seem to adversely affect your Google income - unlike the new referrals.

OK - it doesn't earn me bucket loads of cash. I wouldn't expect to earn money off of a basic facility most websites have. But it's a nice little extra.

Depends on the site. My CTR and eCPM from Google AdSense for Search are phenomenal. (Total revenues from search are lousy, though, just because most of my users would rather browse my site than use internal search.)

Hi,

Yes, EFV, my eCPM for AdSense search is more than 10x normal AdSense, but total revenue is low (but useful).

For me it works.

I've told this before but here it goes again:

Use your own site search engine and multiple the revenue coming from searches by 10- well at least!

It will require a database larger than the site content so you will need a bit more than double the disk space but it certainly does cover the cost and effort.

And, yes, it is allowed to put ad units on search results pages.

That may be a fine idea if you get a lot of searches. It's a waste of time and money if you don't.

Google's site search gives you an option to specify more than 1 domain using the same single search code. If you need to search through your blog as well, just include that domain also.
