CPM ads on forums

"5. Opt-in to image ads
Supporting image ads increases the pool of ads –particularly cost-per-thousand-impression (CPM) ads – bidding to display on your site. Since forums tend to have lower click-through rates (CTRs) than other types of sites, CPM ads can improve revenue without the need for clicks. Please remember, however, that CPM ads come in both text and image formats."

What does your experience suggest? Have the option to have CPM ads on forums by allowing image ads or just have text ads?

No, CPM ads are only available if someone actually chooses to display their ads on your site. That's why some people choose to display the "advertise here" link in the ad unit.

My site is a community, which includes a forum. During a period I was noticing a very significant amount of income coming in during the early mornings for my site. When I say significant, I mean sometimes within the first 3 hours of the day, it would have made about $50 already.

It was during this time that I was getting ads on my site for two movies that were coming out: Roller Bounce and Domino.

Most of the ads were actually flash-based, with static images every now and then. For the skyscraper format, I was getting CPM ads for these movies as well, but they were in text-format.

My personal experience has been that it's a good choice. I hope some more movies advertise on Adsense soon :)

The slightly flash ads where the work of some of adsence team's beta testing. I had one, but it was a dodge car ad instead
