Interesting ad placement technique

Hi everyone,

Just thought of an idea that someone might like to try out.

On your website, create easy navigation paths to your articles, then on your article remove the site navigation and display ads in its place.

Don't make your navigation look like your ads, because you don't want to trick your users. But by placing the ads is the space where the navigation was they are more likely to receive attention. Also, with little or no links to anything else, the user is more likely to click on an ad.

But seriously, I don't have enough traffic to draw any conclusions on whether it's a good idea or not.

It could work. This can easily be done using cms like mambo, you create adsense module then show only that module when a user goes to an article. But, If your main purpose is to draw attention to the ads, why trick your visitors? You can blend your ads to the articles and get higher ctr... it works for me.

My intention isn't to trick, or deceive, the users. My intention is to make the ads blindingly obvious to get maximum CTR. Blending ads into articles does achieve a high CTR, but I believe it's possible to get higher, even without deceiving users.

I ran into a site like this about a week ago. To me, it was trickery because the average user may not get that the ads are "blindingly obvious" (not quite sure what that means - did you mean glaringly obvious?) and could very well miss the "Ads by Gooooogle" link and/or not understand why it's there.
