Problem with different ads served

When I look at my site/s with the "www" , I get one set of ads, and without it, another set. Sometimes the www version is much less targetted or totally different than without. Why is that? Shouldnt both version of url show the same (similar) ads?

The 'www' url _could_ be a different host from the same url sans 'www', therefore, google (properly) treats them as different pages. With my site, the vast majority of connections arrive to the site without the 'www'. Because of that, and the fact that my site changes every day, the ads are targeted differently for 'www'.

I think that the adsense spider visits with a frequency that is somewhat in proportion to the traffic on a particular url so busier urls get retargeted more often. I haven't actually looked at any logs to verify that, however, so take it with the appropriate amount of salt. :)

Ok, I think the problem was a combo of coincidence and the non www not getting called often and maybe it just needed to be called to get targetted ads similar to the popular www. Thanks for your help.

This can be easily resolved by adding these lines to your apache conf:

<VirtualHost 101.102.103.104:80>
ServerName yourdomain.com
RedirectPermanent / [yourdomain.com...]
</VirtualHost>

widget.com, www.widget.com, and www2.widget.com may all be different computers (hosts). In recent times, of course, widget.com and www.widget.com usually refer to the very same server. Google doesn't make that assumption, however, and visits and targets them independently.

Sounds exactly like my system, only in reverse since my www variant is the less popular one and the one poorly targeted.

Fortunately for me, the _vast_ majority of my traffic hits the non-www url. I suppose both you and I could redirect our less popular page to the more popular one.

Hi zoltan. That just makes the www the same as the non www right? And then they both will get served the non www ads right since www is just a redirection of non www content correct?

This doesnt hurt seo potential in any way right? I have a unique ip and I need my www spiderable. Sorry to be so ignorant about this.

This means that your visitors will access only the www part of your site so basically Mediabot will indexthe www pages of your site. So, even if a user tries to access yourdomain.com/somedir/somefile.html (without www), he / she will be redirected to www.yourdmain.com/somedir/somefile.html.

Oh ok, so maybe that is not good as the www is the one gets far less targetted ads.

What I want to knowis how to make both the www and non www get the same type of ads. Basically I want the www to get what the non www gets.

I'm thinking that maybe the non www represents a pure context read and the www, which in my case is getting all the visits, represents a targetted read in terms of the inventory they have and what people are visiting.

So maybe its better just to let it be.

Tomseys, you can also pop by the Apache forum, which has a lot of information on modifying your .htaccess file to direct all domain.com to www.domain.com
