So, it is updated Google AdSense Policies time - although the new policies are dated October 25, 2005, they didn't go live until about 9pm PST on November 3, 2005. Don't forget that when you agreed to the terms, you agreed to comply to the policies, even when they changed. So make sure you are in compliance!
Ad Placement
The following has been added:
A single referral button per product may be placed on a page, in addition to the ad units, search boxes, and link units specified above. Referral buttons are considered to be ‘Google ads’ for purposes of these program policies.
Code Modification
The part in bold has been added to the following:
Any AdSense ad code, search box code, or referral code must be pasted directly into Web pages without modification.
Incentives
Some of this section has been reworded to include "referral buttons", and the following has been added:
Publishers are also not permitted to use deceptive or unnatural means to draw attention to or incite clicks on referral buttons.
Language
Warning to those using AdSense on pages in unsupported languages. Previously, AdSense would allow ads to be run on unsupported language pages although stating ads would likely be untargeted or heavy on PSAs. However, a change in the new policies now prohibits this by publishers. Added to the language clause:
Ads must not be displayed on any page with content primarily in an unsupported language.
Prohibited clicks and impressions
A very small change was made to this section, detailing activity publishers are not permitted to participate in. Previously, one of the prohibited activities was "automated click- and impression- generating clicking tools" but now reads "automated click and impression generating tools".
When you login, you will notice a small change if you really pay attention. When you login, you will notice the login box switches to a red text "Loading..." message before loading the main control panel page within the account. This is similar to what happens when you login to AdWords accounts.
Now for the question everyone is asking, just what are these referral buttons the new policies refers to? Well, unfortunately, you have to wait ;) But I do promise the full scoop very soon!
Most people viewing a site probably think that webpages are made by the fairies, and have no clue how to start one, let alone put anything so complicated on it as ah 'referall' button.
It is competition.Somewhere along the way, if everyone really understood what they were doing, then everyone would want to do it. It is, after all, if you don't know it isn't, easy money to stick those adverts on your site - though I suspect there are a zillion sites out there that just give free advertising and a get about 2 clicks a year.
Now if there really was a 'refurrall' button, that would be just cool for my cat. It is fireworks night and her being spooked means a complete hair shedding episode.
Why would they just add this as an option within AdSense with the same client number.
It would seem to make sense and that may be the direction in the future with the consolidated accounts.
However, there are a lot of people in my niche who visit my site who should be using adwords, but don't. I think if I had an "advertise here with adwords" button I would drive a bunch of people to use adwords. Whenever someone inquires how they can get one of those "little ads", I point them to G- but it would be nice to get a bonus for doing so.
If you saw Horizon on Thursday, you'd realise that we genetically inherit the experiences of our ancestors due to epigenetics. And if you didn't see Horizon, search on "bbc horizon epigenetics" to get the details.
As we have evolved from animals, this principle of hereditary experience undoubtedly operates in cats. Ergo, the traumas experienced by your cat this evening will not only result in traumatic hair loss, but will result in his/her kittens' hairloss, and hairloss for generations of cats to come.
I hope Google bear this in mind as they put us through the stress of adapting to new adsense policies. In fact, I'll start compiling a dossier now so that when my great grandchildren suffer from clinical depression they'll be able to sue Google who caused that depression by amending the Adsense policies.
Or perhaps I'll just have another glass of wine.
I am, as others seem to be, a little disappointed as unless the site is webmasterish in profile then why would I want to promote using AS to my viewers and more to the point would they even be interested.
Would have been much better if it was an Advertiser referral programme, which Jenstar mentioned already exists on an invitation only basis.
You think I'm joking, don't you? Well, I can understand that because I do sometimes (OK, frequently) talk tommyrot. However, try reading:

My great grandson will hiccup in 29 years time because you challenged what I said.
I wanted to refer firefox toolbar! (too bad that i installed them a month ago, i could have referred myself).
And finally, who on earth dont know about adsense? Even my cat is an adsense publisher.
The only thing open to them is adsense for search for unsupported languages: Croatian, Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese.
I am in America but I got to feeling sorry for those who are not and having experience with the search part of adsense it is a small earner.
I hope for your sakes they become supported soon.
My cat has it's own blog with adsense on it. I could put a refurrall button there!
Hehe mention Cats and you draw them out. If someone did an adsense program just to promote stuff for cats they would make a fortune.
Just now with the cat crawling over the computer my only conclusion is that the cat has now developed an interest in the stats from its blog.
I think to be honest, the referrall button might be just one too many buttons on my site.
Seriously, do anyone else notice this? I suspect that it is odd to us (me and my cat) as being out of the US publishers.
And Blue, my cat has hair. But it's white, probably because of the too much competition and worries.

Yes, I must have had too much to drink last night. I was obviously hallucinating because I recall seeing a news item about someone setting up a radio station for pets to listen to. But, hey, what's this?
[news.bbc.co.uk...]
Perhaps Google should look at advertising on this radio station, especially as the fastest-growing market sector at the moment seems to be cats branching out into their own adsense publishing business.
