Here's a little story about PR. My buddy and I - both registered virgin domains years back.
He put up a few pages - forgot about the site. His site was a PR4 immediately, and has been for I don't know how long. He has ONE IBL (from my pr3 site on a pr1 page)
I continued to build the site I registered the same day as him, and it now ranks inside of 100,000 in Alexa - has thousands of inbound links, and a PR of 3.
Page Rank means absolutely positively nothing to me. I rank fine with crappy PR.
I personally think PR.... should die. It's outdated, and a VERY poor representation of the overall quality of the site.
What clues are there that an update is in the offing.
From Matt Cutt's blog today:
"Just to give you a heads-up, I think a new set of backlinks (and possibly PageRank) will probably be visible relatively soon; I’m guessing within the next few days. I still expect some flux after that though, just to let you know."
Cheers, MJ
