Google has renamed Bard to Gemini, with Gemini Advanced and a mobile app.

Ultra 1.0, our largest and most capable state-of-the-art AI model.
With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced is far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions and collaborating on creative projects. Gemini Advanced not only allows you to have longer, more detailed conversations; it also better understands the context from your previous prompts.

With Gemini on your phone, you can type, talk or add an image for all kinds of help while you’re on the go: You can take a picture of your flat tire and ask for instructions, generate a custom image for your dinner party invitation or ask for help writing a difficult text message. It’s an important first step in building a true AI assistant — one that is conversational, multimodal and helpful.

Gemini for Android is available now, while it'll be available on iOS in the coming weeks.

When no-one uses your product, try changing the name. One of the oldest (and least effective) marketing techniques in the book.

I thought Bard was a classy name.

The real key here is how well it works, and with it's LLM, where we can take advantage. :)

Now, in this case I *know* it isn’t because G### paid a fortune (twice) for gemini dot com, and needed to justify the expense . . .

One of the useless AI tool I ever used. Even Bing AI is better than this trash.

And Google made its traditional search engine worst for this Bard Gemini or whatever they are going to call it in future.

....and there's an app for that. Wonder how much space that app will occupy on your phone?

isn't gemini dot com a site promoting bitcoin, NFTs and other 'investments'? Does Google really want to be associated with this sort of thing? Wow. I wonder which genius dreamed this up?

>isn't gemini dot com a site promoting bitcoin

Bard was also a registered site.

All very odd from that point of view, methinks

If Google was a man I'd suspect he was cracking up.

John Muller is now talking about the use of ai generated images, to promote the Gemini as the Gemini is focused on ai generated images. But the fact is that Google's AI services couldn't compete as others have made an iron impression in the Digital World.

If this doesn't go well, Sundar will take even more responsibility by laying off more people, while forcing them to test and improve Gemini. Ultra? Advanced? What's the name... I'm confused.

Sundar will lay off more people anyway. He has to keep increasing profits and there is a limit to how much more he can wring out of The Web without destroying the company's credibility completely. Other bets have collectively been a dismal failure and I expect to see many of them disposed of. So there is no option but to cut costs and the simplest way is to reduce headcount.

Will he take responsibility? No. It will be a 'hard choice' based on 'market conditions'.

And to think there are firms that have been in business for decades, generations or even centuries producing the same product or providing the same service ...
