Google Discover Traffic Completely Dead since End Of August

For us all is good and no SEO errors. Btw, I just found a thread on the google forums: <snip> it seems that more and more (seemingly established) websites are being affected by this.

On October 4th, one of websites experienced a significant drop in traffic, and unfortunately, the majority of our Discover traffic, which used to account for 95% of our total traffic, vanished over time (now getting 0 visitors from Discover). I also have another website which has a stronger domain authority and better backlinks and remained unaffected by this update.

This is just nuts, clearly people "used" to think my content was relivent. They clicked often, Now God thinks otherwise aka Google.

Google found a bug in their update that affected Discover and fixed it today. I hope that the lull is finally over [status.search.google.com ]

Let's see how it goes then. My traffic dropped after the August core update so I am not sure if this is a fix that applies to me.

Has your traffic dropped only or has it completely become zero, in my case, it starts decreasing to zero after 8 august, and no luck till now!

My traffic has dropped to zero since august 24th, core update. Still no luck so far.

I feel like it's one step forward though and 2 steps back. Or more so we need to rethink the big picture. If Google has an update with a *Bug as they stated it can really negatively effect the web and the people that depend on the web for a livelihood. Perhaps they need to do more actual testing or beta modes before just launching new updates that have the ability to effect essentially everyone on the web. So yes its great they fixed the bug, however it's been a solid 25+ days of sites being zapped by this. Which in turn is most likely enough time to put some people out of business or just put a bad taste in your mouth and want to move on from working anything web or Google related in the future.

Update from my side: since yesterday I am noticing some impressions again on discover after two months of zero impressions.

Since the November Core Update started, our new articles are not being shown on Discover. Old articles are still there but we all know that they will fizzle out soon enough. Exactly the same happened after the bugged October Update on another website. Time to fire a bunch of people and start paying for some AI.

@jc2021 congrats! Can you explain how your using Jetpack? I wasn't familiar with this for tracking analytics? I have been looking at the Performance on Discover section in Search Console to find my Discover stuff.

just download and install Jetpack on your WordPress and make it active. also, you have to install the Jetpack app on your Android or ios device now you can track daily views, visitors, clicks, web stories views, page views, referral traffic, and backlinks traffic also, traffic comes from Discover shows as WordPress Android app on our jetpack which comes from link shows as (com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox)

@aabid099 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox is not from discover, it is the referrer for a search via the Google app. Also bear in mind with Jetpack that we cannot use it so easily in Europe (GDPR).

I actually do not use jetpack as it slows down my site. I use GSC. Traffic from discover is actually called 'Direct'

Unfortunately no. What I find strange is that the topic pages in Discover are crammed with completely outdated articles, but only from a handful of magazines.

@ami3810- Yes, my core web vitals were failing and I fixed some SEO errors via semrush. And yes, always continue posting.

@jc2021 thanks for the reply. Do you mind sharing what SEO errors via Semrush did you fix? Trying to figure out why our 2 main projects have been thrown out of Discover after the Core Updates but did great with the HCU.

No, zero since August - no recover!

Update: while Discover traffic recovered last year, the last 7 days have been a downward spiral. Especially traffic from Europe has been down by 80%.
