I need your valuable points for this issue:

One of my friends has a website name called ABC and done SEO works for that website but we are gonna re-brand our website to ABCD.

ABC which we did some SEO work for before have asked about help to ensure they do not lose ranking when they rebrand. They have been bought out by a company called ABC from the USA and are going to switch all websites to this later in the year. Can you take a look at ABC (2,500 Pages now) and get back to me with thoughts on what to do when it switches to ABCD. I know about the webmaster tools (Search console) to tell google one site has switched to another and that all pages need 101 redirecting to the new site pages. Is there anything else you can think about that may need to happen to links that go to ABC do they need to change etc?

Hi Katren and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

Sorry, but we do not review sites in the public forums, a visit to that Welcome link can explain how our forums work best. If you are interested, we have a Review My Site forum [webmasterworld.com...] in the paid Supporters area [webmasterworld.com...] where members can review each others' sites this way.

You want to be sure that the redirect to the new domain is a 301 and not a 101, the important thing is to be sure that the old page will land on the new equivalent page. You will need to keep the old domain in order to redirect incoming links to the new site.

Google offers complete instructions, good place to start: [developers.google.com...]

Re-branding can go well or bad---and we never really know before it is tried. What we CAN do is make every effort to insure that all redirects are correct, in place, and ready to switch on smoothly.

Is ABC and ABCD the same company? Will ABC have the same CONTENT as ABCD? If not, then redirects won't be useful and might, in fact, be detrimental.

If this is a domain acquisition and not domain and content acquisition and the new ABCD is intended to keep the old content alive and moving forward, will you have the ability to do any redirects from ABC?

If Not, then you start from scratch, zero, new site on the web. If your content has been favorably ranked in the past it is very possible it might do well under the new domain ... or g could view it as duplicate content until the owners of ABC (old) introduce their content and "remove the duplicates".

A little more information on the transaction and who controls which can help guide thoughts and suggestions.
