Google Search added in new guidelines to the rich results help document. The new guidelines directly remove the ability to markup products or content that are widely prohibited or regulated, or that can facilitate serious harm to self or others. Google said it will not show rich results on such products.

"Product examples include firearms & weapons, recreational drugs, tobacco, vaping products, gambling-related products and other products that can pose acute threats of physical harm."

I work in the firearm industry and obviously have noticed that all the places we had rich snippets do not anymore. I have been looking around but have not seen any discussion from people in these industries and what their strategy is going forward. Please forgive me if I am overlooking the obvious as I am fairly new to the SEO world but learning as much as I can.

Am I right in the thought process that for these industries it is simply a content war? Things such as reviews, pricing, and availability no longer help so that is my assumption but I would like more clarification as well as first hand experiences for things that work to build traffic in these industries.

Thank you in advance for any replies!

@ErrlyBird ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

g ... and others in the tech sectors, have established various criteria for various reasons that they will not support, as is their privilege. Rich snippets are only part of the web universe. One can still be successful on the internet without that particular tool. Just a bit more hard work and time.
