Google says there's a bug causing a serving issue for "a small number of sites."

If it's a small number of sites i wonder why Google felt it worth mentioning.

There's an ongoing issue with our serving system in Google Search that's affecting a small number of sites.
We're working on fixing the root cause. Next update will be within 12 hours.

A little light on details, but I was having trouble last night finding a site by its name (fine now) and wonder if that could have been related.

As rustybrick mentions, this was worse than the first tweet indicated. I had a feeling about that if Google had to make a PSA about it.

Google confirms...

We fixed the issue with our serving system. Newly published URLs should show up in search results at normal rates. There will be no more updates.
