One of my websites is in a very small education niche and it is the number 2 website in that niche. It makes about $7000 a year in Adsense revenue. I don’t have to do anything to maintain it. It just sits there and generates income.

Recently, the number one website in the niche crashed and they were down for about a week. It was then I realize how much of a difference there is between being number one and number two.

While their website was down, my website went from making about $20 a day to well over $100 a day. For the year, that would be $40,000 a year versus $7000.

When their website came back up, it regained its spot at number one immediately. Frankly, their website is better than mine so there’s not much to complain about. However, this just shows how much of a difference there is between being number one and number two even in a very small niche industry.

Curious ... which site came first. Your's or their's?

Hence the push for the number 1 spot. :-)

Imagine how it would be if we got rid of all Google's useless Widgets and reduced the ads and made it much more clearly what is an ad and what is not.

I remember before mobile really took hold when the first and second page produced decent clicks. Now you have to be in the top 3 organic just to receive a trickle of what it use to be.

@JesterMagic

Yes! I wish those widgets were gone. When they appeared, I took a big hit.
