Not sure when this started showing, but i've just noticed Google SERPs are showing YouTube videos with, for example, "3 key moments in this video" and some with actual timing points in the video.

I can see a "6 key moments in this video" with specific timing points and the accompanying text at that timing point.

As you note it’s known as ‘key moments’ and was added to Google search about a year ago.

It is especially powerful leverage for tutorial and educational video content: think video Q&A, FAQ; now specifically referenced and targeted in search queries.

Basically it’s adding timestamps and descriptions for Google to reference.
Note: many of us were already providing similar for viewers especially with longer videos, eg subject subheading jump locations.
Google have now taken up the idea for some search query results as well.

Part of best practice video search optimisation.

I saw it today for the first time with a video in prime location in the SERPs. Maybe Google is now rolling out a feature globally which it tested earlier in a selected set of countries?

Note: the anchor text above is misleading: Google is actually (as is mentioned in content body) opening up ‘key moments’ beyond YouTube to a limited number of non-YouTube content providers. YouTube plus some others.

It sounds like the video equivalent of including a #fragment in an ordinary HTML search result.
