Hey guys, I am new to SEO . I started my own website recently and I have been doing some backlinking for my website. I use the Ahrefs tool to keep track and I noticed under "Organic Keywords" I am not ranking for any keyword in India, meanwhile I have 6 in the US and 4 in France. How do I control this? There aren't many strictly indian websites to rank for in my niche that is Gaming. Like how is this being determined? Why France when I haven't made any content for France nor have I posted on some french website. How can I control and make my backlinks matter for India and my anchor texts contribute to SERP in India. Also I have been focusing on ranking for my website name first and in incognito/my friends google, my website appears second in top 10 but in Ahrefs SERP results for the keyword it does not show my website at all and says I don't rank for India, how is this possible, is Ahrefs just not updated yet? been 4-5 days now since I show up on 2nd in the search results. I live in India so if in actual google search result I am coming second, then why not in Ahrefs SERP for the keyword? Thank you.

Echoing RedBar, how long has this effort been in place?

Also, third party stuff comes after g in analysis, might simply be a factor they have not caught up with your changes.

Meanwhile, keywords, while important, are not as critical for ranking as they were a decade or more back.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. It has been about 3 weeks since I started <snip>, I know in terms of SEO that's very less, but it did show results for countries like USA or Germany and France, but I could not determine that whatsoever. As per my updated understanding Its not in my hands? Because if the people of a country don't search for a keyword then Ahrefs does not update its serp is what I've gathered, do correct me. Thanks!

There are many reasons your site is ranking in other countries. Here are a few of the simpler ones:

1) The language you are using for writing articles on your website
2) The location of the server for your website.
3) Domains like .com etc... tend to rank better in the USA

What's been said already, but, also, stop thinking solely keywords. You should be thinking natural language.
For example, if you want to get to German readers, how would a native of Germany construct the text on the site.
Similarly, with France, Spain, and, of course, India, etc.

It has been about 3 weeks since I started

Sorry to tell you however change that into months before you will see anything indicative whatsoever.

For well-established sites a few years old, and I am not referring to news sites, minor regular updates and alterations can usually be seen within a couple of weeks, major updates for such a site can sometimes be seen within a month but are usually 3/4/5 months.

Regularly updating a new site, other than news, is not a good idea since G's algo may decide you're trying to "game" the system and you could end up getting spanked never to recover for ages ... be very careful and ensure what you do first time is original quality text and images to establish a reputation. Adding new pages is ok, do not continually amend important ones.

I know it's not what you want to hear however play the long game, not the short one.

In simplest terms, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz, etc, are not Google. They are third part tools that try to approximate Google results in a variety of ways... but they lack the computing resources, the data, the infrastructure, and the algorithms that Google has.
