Google is adding "Fact Check" labels to Google Images search, extending it on from Search and News.

'There are no sharks swimming in the streets of Houston'...wow, that's pretty useful fact checking that I just could not figure out on my own. Very helpful.

How about Google adding a scraped label to images as well?

Nothing like fact checking stolen images. As this somehow makes images trustworthy...

Sadly, there exist plenty of people who could not figure that out on their own (mutatis mutandis). “It must be real! I saw it online!” But I am inclined to doubt that a search engine’s true-or-false stamp will change their beliefs.

I'm looking at this from the point of view of an seo and the opportunities it offers. It doesn't give any ranking advantage, but the label draws attention to the image.

Chuckles. Nanny in overdrive.

Eventually will become so cluttered they will wonder why they ever started ... because there is NO END to the "fact checks" that will ensue.

I third the scraped content "fact check". Could be easily determined by the original publish date...but never was. They seem to know when everything else was done.

The scrapers are better than g ... they find what you post IN SECONDS and repost in MINUTES ... how is g to know which came first?

Only way for g to KNOW which came first is if webmasters give up control and SUBMIT their stuff DIRECTLY to a google controlled system ... and I don't think any of us want to go that route.

Could be easily determined by the original publish date...but never was.

I seem to recollect in the very early noughties that G images DID know the original and any scraped ones did not rank higher than the original.

I remember this because I used to tell widget users to use my images since mine always ranked ahead of copies and then it all changed, I think, when G fell in love with EMDs carrying AdSense and scraping info and images from every source possible.

Do you remeber those pages with AdSense text navigation precisely the same as site navigation, it was impossible to tell which were the site's and which were AdSense?

No deceit there was there G with a massive industry built around EMDs and then when they stopped that those who had legitimate EMD sites were collateral damage.
