One of our client's does not want a business listing.
Their company profile was created years ago without his consent. It seems you cannot permanently delete a listing once it's created.

Anyone have any luck with this?

i would assume that as long as your business exists, google will have a placeholder for the entity that is your business.
your best option is probably to claim and control that placeholder - even if it means deoptimizing it for your purposes.

Yeah you're absolutely right - a business listing can't be deleted. A caveat could be if it's showing a private residential address in which case you can request removal. As Phranque pointed it out it might be a good idea to claim the listing so you control the information being displayed for that location. You can mark the location as permanently closed or whatever makes the most sense based on what the listing is for and what the client wants.

I have a different issue. We have a business listing, the image for the company is actually of a car dealership around the corner. The post code is correct but for that code the image should show our company not the car dealers around the corner. It is actually perhaps 1/4 a mile away.

No tweaking with the business listing seems to rectify, and there seems no way of contacting G about this!

Mark,

If the photo is unrelated to your business you can flag it for removal by the G team. Primary photos can be suggested from the GMB dashboard but they're ultimately chosen by the algorithm. Upload a bunch of good quality photos of the business and one of them will likely be used as the feature image.

If you need more help troubleshooting just share the short url for the listing.
