Hello-

I can't figure out how to delete/remove a sitemap in the GSC?

I tried to add "another" sitemap (different url), but the old one is still fetched. Even when the old sitemap's file no longer exists (410 code), Google continues to try to access it, and reports an error. (I also tried with a 404 code).

So I was wondering what is the proper way to remote a sitemap from the GSC?

Click on the sitemap to bring up the details and then click on the 3 dot menu located in the toolbar top right for more options which includes a remove option.

Obligatory caution: Deleting the sitemap will not cause G to forget the URLs that were listed on it. No power on earth can make G forget.

Yes, Google has the memory of an elephant especially when it's least convenient. The tip from Jester is spot on though, pretty simple to clear out unwanted sitemaps from gsc.

Thank you very much! I didn't look "so far".
