Dealing with Google as a business is tough and dealing with Google as a normal user is becoming a huge headache as well. I was trying to find some info about some software on the latest Smartphone I just bought and it was insane how stupid the search engine is now. It blatantly ignores keywords and uses synonyms for others which was not my intent and important for the search. It just returns articles of general information that are 5 or 6 years old. Even the stupid "People also ask" widget just regurgitates these same articles with information that is either outdated or completely wrong regarding my query. My whole mobile screen seems to be filled with either ads or search widgets.

I disagree with the use of all these widgets, and see a lot of it as content theft (people work hard to provide this information). It would be one thing if Google actually returned the correct information but in a large percentage of queries it does not making these widgets and the AI behind a huge failure.

Google please become a real search engine again instead of trying to be an information provider on the backs of other peoples businesses. (I know this will never happen unfortunately unless the government steps in)

I just wanted to quickly share my experience...

I shared my story about acne on Reddit and how I cured it. I remembered the title of the post, so I googled it and added Reddit at the end to tell Google what I expected to see.

Nope, nothing found. Didn't even give me Reddit results! hah! Instead, it offered me Healthline.

I went to duck.com. I typed in the title and the first result was my post. It found it with and without adding reddit to the end.

I'm seeing featured snippets disappearing for the majority of keywords across multiple industries, in both UK and Australia. I'm talking over 80% gone in some cases where they were previously widespread.

Unsure if this is affecting the US too, but Mozcast reports their prevalence dropping from 16% to 14% in the last 2 weeks, so could be related (https://moz.com/mozcast/features)

After 20 years of EAT....usurped by a pinterest page. Ridiculous.

Even demoted from nearly all image results.

Definitely the worst update ever for this site.

usurped by a pinterest page

When so many top-ranked companies are all located in the same area it's hardly surprising, incestuous many would call it:-)

My G Organic September and start of October are looking more similar to last year.
This is happening only because September last year was when traffic started a decline for our site.

Very odd surges of converting and lively traffic today and yet SERPs look like I've disappeared. More conversions in one hour this morning than half of last week. One minute it's ON, the next it's OFF. If that's the new Everflux, guess I won't complain. Better desktop density too and that's a good thing....oops, in the time I wrote this it's back OFF.

Huge surge in traffic for lifestyle and tech website. All I did was to go on holiday... Seems like doing nothing is the best solution.

It looks as if Danny is denying EAT plays a part in the ranking. Read his tweets:

@Guidesify - All one needs to do is to just leave it as it is. The pages come back after a "few weeks to a few months (could take up to 6 months and more)," but eventually traffic returns.

Worth reading: [webmasters.googleblog.com...]

^^^^ Yes... that's Danny Sullivan's article in the Google blog about core updates, and IMO it's a significant article, very much worth reading.

Note that we already have a discussion about it in this forum, started about nine weeks ago. The thread is still open, and I'll kick it up as well...

[form webmasterblog
Instead, the changes are about improving how our systems assess content overall. These changes may cause some pages that were previously under-rewarded to do better.

This is big BS. Ever ycore update we see in most cases ranking improvments that results in less traffic. Indeed the traffic that is cut off with these core updates are like converting traffic.

Then what has a core update to do with assessing content. Isnīt this the work to be done by google robots?
If new conent is found then this would go into core algo. No need to update the core algo unless you want to push down good conent over bad content.

And i realy donīt know why amazon affiliates should bee seen as under-rewarded? Maybe SD could write something about this? I am waiting....

Great traffic yesterday, continuing today. Not sure what it's related to. SEMrush sensor not suggesting much changing.

Is it yet another update going on?

Are these updates designed to count how many less buyers do research and trigger all these filters?

i realy donīt know why amazon affiliates should bee seen as under-rewarded?

Everything Amazon is already way over-rewarded IMO. Amazon gets domain crowding then add an affiliate or two in the mix and 50%+ of the first page of Google's SERPS point to Amazon. It's a joke.

As a manufacturer, I don't see much value in Google promoting Amazon and Amazon affiliates as much as they do. When consumers buy direct from us, they get better product pricing when ordering 2+ items, lower shipping costs and a manufacturer direct enhanced warranty. Since we produce what we sell, consumers can contact us with any pre or post sale questions and get correct answers from the source. Amazon, on the other hand, steers product reviews on a massive marketplace level in an effort to push Prime items among other shady practices. Why Amazon is even in Google's SERPS, knowing how much Amazon blatantly deceives consumers, makes one wonder how much Google actually cares about their users.

Yup, dozens have disappeared for one of my clients - over 80% gone overnight. First detected on Sunday.

And it must be widespread as AWR reports their overall prevalence in the UK dropping by over 40% in the last week (from 16.4% down to 9.7% today)

The serps before june 2018 were definatly better. This EAT thing damage so many business without a reason.
My sister is working at a software firm with 40 employees . They are developing financial software since 1982. They have a 100% natural link profile everybody would dream of. They transporting tons of EAT signals on their site.

11 years ago they had a landing page on a other domain. This other domain has 2 bad links and 3 subpages with content less then 200 words. This domain is not mobile friendly at all.
For most parts of their main keywords, this very bad landing domain outrank the main website for no reason.

I know, some will say, then they do something wrong. I can tell you, they didnt! I know also, content length says nothing about the quality but the main page has the better content, the better links, is faster, is optimized, domain trust etc. The only reason I can see is, that this bad landing page is not flagged as a YMYL page. But it looks like, that this single signal is more important then any other signale.

Something is really wrong with this google core updates. They interpret the wrong signals and the result will be, that more and more google customers use other search engines, because that what you are looking for, is on page 2 >.
If google is reading here, I hope they reconsider their decisions in 2018-2019.

Why is it still there?

Why not remove or 301 it?

> Why is it still there?

until last year, they have not noticed, that this domain is still online.

>Why not remove or 301 it?

Because this domain is ranking good for no reason. I am pretty sure, a 301 will not result in a better ranking for the main website and why remove, when google decides, this page has any value? On this landing page is still a link to the main website.

Today traffic was great at the morning. Then after noon everything just stopped. It was like that someone has shutdown the internet. Then again after evening a little traffic came back. Seriously speaking it is like google is making fun of us.

Zero ROI on ad buys.. poor ROI on organic. Can't reciprocal link without getting a warning. We did far better on Bing last month in terms of ROI however obviously not as much volume as we used to be able to get through Google say 3-5 years ago.. Wish we could link exchange as that served us very well in the past as an alternate form of traffic. (I know we can still link exchange but most of our potentials don't know what nofollow is or they are using ecommerce platforms that do not support it, or they aren't coders, or they are just paranoid).

Google is starting that cycle many businesses go through - too much focus on making shareholders and their overpaid executives happy while the government still doesn't enforce anti-trust and restraint of trade laws.

But this tide is turning.. at some point a few VC's will get together and create the next new search engine that obeys by laws and treats people like people and not numbers to be monetized.

I could not agree more. It's definitely not a natural pattern...because we have all experienced natural patterns for so many years.

It’s way beyond making fun of us. They toy with us in terms of misinformation and breaking countless laws in plain sight.
