Google Images has introduced a "Share GIFs" section directly in apps such as Gmail, Hangouts, Android Messages and Whatsapp. This development stems from Google's acquisition of Tenor in 2018.

These are GIFs specifically added for sharing, and will be on the Google app for iOS and Android, as well as Chrome on Android.
Google says it'll be adding the ability to share on other platforms and other browser in time.

Sharable animated? GIFs are part and parcel of the web, even with the copyright/trademark/patent issues which continue to go forward. Wonder how g addressed those issues?

Pretty sure that was a reason why g came up with webp ...
