I'm looking at all the keywords I rank for. I want to track those that rank ok but need work.

And I'm finding tons of related keywords that rank for the same landing page.

How do you guys choose just one keyword to track if you have let's say ten variations?

I have a keyword limit in < my SEO platform >..

Thanks!

Do you have Google or Bing Webmaster accounts?

I have exported the keyword reports from there, sorted based on the keyword phrase then ranking to determine which (if any) I would like to improve on then rework the content to include that/those phrases.

One can also make a judgment call and go with your gut. You know your biz, you know your clients, and you know the SEs ... depending on scale a minor nudge might make a difference ... these days the clutter is so immense THAT gets in the way.

Keywords are a part of the strategy (a diminishing part in recent days) while content/intent is rising.

Chose the focus and go from there.

@htmlbasictutor

We have GSC and will be getting BWT shortly.

I was thinking of checking the impressions/ctr of the group of related keywords to find which one performs best, and then track that one.

Once we actually start going in an optimizing page by page I can look up those related kws again and make sure to pepper them into the content/headers.

@tangor

I'm two weeks into this biz, but luckily my marketing director has been here for 7 years and knows her stuff.

Thanks guys!
