Hi so I re-submitted the sitemap.xml file to Google Search Console's sitemap submission page.
However the number of the "Web Pages Submitted" didn't change. Does it take a few hours to update this number? Please advise. Thanks!

“Web Pages Submitted” doesn’t mean pages on the most recently submitted sitemap. It means What It Says On The Box: pages submitted, individually, by name.
<boilerplate> With or without a sitemap, they will find your pages. If site navigation is so obscure that even Google can't find everything without a map, then humans won’t be able to find their way around either. </boilerplate>

Hmm I submitted the index file not the actual sitemap.xml file. Would submitting the actual stemap file work?

Oh yes and...
Does it take a few hours to update this number?
Most things on GSC take a few days (not hours) to update.

Quick question should i submit the actual sitemap.xml file location or the sitemapindex.xml? I have 2 split sitemap files.

Submit the actual sitemaps. The index helps bots to find sitemaps that are not individually listed in the robots.txt file.

not2easy thanks! Yes I had to submit the actual sitemaps to get the figures updated instantly after submission to GSC.
