Opened chrome in incognito mode this morning to check out my keywords and noticed on the Google.com home page right under the Google Search button some text with a link:

"New! Meet the Google Pixel 3. Now available at the Google Store"

Don't think I have ever seen an ad on Google's search homepage before...

I've seen this many times before. Years possibly? This is how Google does things. Sneaky, without raising much fuss. The question to ponder is what is this ad worth? Consider Super Bowl ads. What do those cost? They cost so much because of the number of eyeballs on those ads. Now consider how many eyeballs see that subtle ad on the homepage. Now also add the consideration that one company could be the only ones showing ads during the Super Bowl. The realization is that the number of eyeballs on Super Bowl ads is minuscule in comparison to the traffic Google.com gets on a per minute basis. That ad location is Google's own. It circumvents. It's just another indicator of the diversion strategy which involves getting a cut from everything that happens on the web or keeping people in a web where they can make their cut. If people who are experts on SEO haven't noticed these ads then it tells me once again that seeing the bigger picture is best to be ignored. The point being you can't out SEO Google and that would be bad for SEO business. However all the evidence clearly shows that pouring money into SEO is a futile proposition.

If a person can't figure out how to profit with SEO, we shouldn't assume that all SEO is futile. If I can profit from SEO, then I think it is fair to assume many other people can profit from SEO.

As for Google, a relatively low percentage of their users see the homepage. I can't remember the last time (before today) I paid attention to their homepage. Many users (including me) save time and use a toolbar, or the chrome browser bar, or voice search, or other ways to access & search Google. Even a low percentage is a huge number so Google has a history of temporarily promoting a product or service on their homepage and I believe also charities after different natural disasters (if I remember correctly). Nothing new or noteworthy IMHO. We are talking about a for-profit company using their own homepage to promote their own brand & image.

I figured it was something I had probably missed before. The link is no follow, it isn't marked as an Ad but then again it is their own product...
