Google Speakable is a new structured data specification for eligible publishers enabling them to mark up sections of a news article relevant to being read aloud by Google Assistant.

When people ask the Google Assistant -- "Hey Google, what's the latest news on NASA?", the Google Assistant responds with an excerpt from a news article and the name of the news organization. Then the Google Assistant asks if the user would like to hear another news article and also sends the relevant links to the user's mobile device.

The question remains unanswered (to me) how the site operator can monetise, or otherwise benefit, from anything "speech" related - besides Local Search using speech to find nearby businesses. I do this and get walk-ins at my business location, but I haven't figured out how to sell products via "speech."

Can News sites complete subscriptions using "Speakable" Structured Data Specification? Can Ad publishers get clicks using this?

B...B....B..But..What's good for Google is good for everyone, that's what the Googley song sheet says isn't it ?

Benefits to the site operator ?

Your reward is knowing that you contributed to Google's bottom line citizen webmaster..

Live long and ( we'll ) prosper..

All hail Eric !

+1

At least, with voice controlled Smart TV, your site is displayed, and even if people can't click on ads, they see them (CPM) and what you propose.

That's always been the problem with this, and we've had discussions on the topic. I can't see how it can be monetised in its current form, and I doubt there's the impetus to provide monetisation opportunities.

The other thing that strikes me is that people are just going to accept the answers, whether correct or not. It's a worrying trend.
