Site wide split testing impact on SEO

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me here. I have a client that had their designer create a brand new design to replace their old website. They wish to program the new design and run an AB split test between the new website design and old design to measure improvement in conversion rates. Can someone suggest how to go about doing this without causing a negative impact on their SEO traffic and rankings?

One way to do it is with a script that displays a message offering a choice between Old and New design, along with a vote.

New could temporarily reside in a roboted-out directory to hide it from the SEs until you make a final decision.
