For almost 2 decades we focused on SEO which would increase our Websites PageRank. Our niche site did very well, in fact dominating the brands at one point. The last 3 to 4 years we have seen a decline in our rankings. In a new site we are developing, we are weeding out the thin content, added a substantial amount of new useful content and getting ready to launch a new website mobile friendly.

Are there other things one should consider besides thin content when trying to convert a site based on SEO for PageRank, to a site which will now be focused on BrainRank?

Didn't google say that Rankbrain learns by trial and error? So perhaps you should look at the most succesful sites in your niche to see what it likes.

RankBrain - I don't think Google even knows what it does. So you must be a genius to even attempt to optimise for it. Here is an explanation

Rank Brain is an artificial intelligence (AI) program used to help process Google search queries. RankBrain uses artificial intelligence to embed vast amounts of written language into mathematical entities, called vectors, that the computer can understand.

Notice the clever use in this sentence of both "Rank Brain" and "RankBrain" - who said seo was dead? Now if you are still left puzzled rest assured you are not alone

RankBrain is rather new for Google. I believe that is used in only about 15% of their searches (the rate of search terms that Google doesn’t understand). If I understood correctly, RankBrain is an artificial intelligence that tracks and processes search data when the system isn’t sure what the request means. So it’s pretty vague. I am not sure how it can create the actual ranking when it can change the results completely, allowing the algorithm to look at “what you’re really saying”.
