Indexing issues after switching to HTTPS

I switched my site to HTTPS more than a month ago and not all my pages are indexed yet. Right now it shows:

2,637 URLs submitted
1,263 URLs indexed

Is it normal that it takes so long to re-index site when switching to HTTPS? I checked all canonical links and everything is set up correctly.

I'm assuming you are seeing the number of indexed pages vs. submitted in the new https: account in your GSC, is that right? Are you seeing an equivalent ratio in the old http: account? Is the old sitemap still accessible? I mean, if you try to visit its URL, are you redirected to the https: version?

Yes, I am seeing the number of indexed pages. When I do site:site.com I see both https and http. My sitemap is https, I made sure I changed all links from http to https. Also if you go to old http page it 301 redirect to https

That's one way to see them, with the site: search. The reason I asked if you were seeing the increase in GSC for the new account and the decrease for the old http: account is because you should be able to see any impediments to crawling in GSC that don't show up in the site: search. Same reason I asked if you can visit the old http: sitemap page. To make sure Google is seeing what you want them to see of if there is confusion. Is the old sitemap still "submitted" at the old GSC account? You want to be sure that your robots.txt file is showing the address of the sitemap as https:.

I deleted the old account in GSC when I switched to https. So right now I have only GSC for the new account. I have been seeing a very slow increase in indexed pages over the last month. The first few hundred pages were quickly indexed but there is a delay in the increase in the last few weeks so bottom line is more than half are not indexed yet. There are no referenced to the old xml sitemap and robots include https sitemap.

No matter, the old (http) pages are still indexed and when the user clicks the link, they'll be 301'd to the new (https) page.

Larger sites can take a while, especially if not all your pages have backlinks to bring Googlebot to discover the new pages. Looks like you're right in the middle of the process.

All that's left is waiting, but I wouldn't worry about it taking a long time. After all, there are a lot of sites doing exactly what you're doing :)
