hmm I did a quick test,
Google Search I went to google an typed: Obama is
Google suggested to me:
Obama is osama
Obama is bin laden
Obama is gog
Obama is dead
hmm not a great start so far,
I clicked on "Obama is bin laden" as I wondered what on earth that was all about.
the organic results were ok, mostly news sites about when bin laden was killed etc..
but at the top of the page, Google is showing me results from Google images, all of the images are comparing Obama's facial features to Bin Ladens. At the bottom of the search results page are some more suggestions from Google..
obama is osama 100 proof
barack obama and osama bin laden are the same person
obama bin laden dead
is barack obama really osama bin laden
blimey!
Google Images I clicked on Google images and the page was full of images comparing Obama's features to Bin Ladens, ears, hand gestures etc...
Google Videos I clicked on videos and the page wall full of videos with titles like
"Bin laden and obama are same - YouTube",
"OBAMA = OSAMA - 100% proof - YouTube",
"Is Obama really Osama Bin Laden? - YouTube"
etc...
Google News I clicked on the news link and the results were pretty good, no fake news.
Google Shopping the shopping link showed a few sellers selling "Obama bin laden" t-shirts
YouTube I went on to youtube and typed "Obama is" the suggestions were just as bad...
"Obama is osama bin laden"
"Obama is gay"
"Obama is osama"
"Obama is a Muslim"
"Obama is gay and Michelle is a man"
"Obama is the antchrist"
"Obama is the founder of isis"
I could only imagine that each of these would bring up hundreds of videos which when one if viewed youtube will keep suggesting others to you forever. (I didn't test it but that's what usually happens on youtube)
There is alot of work for Google to do! the worrying part is that Google is suggesting that people check out fake news/info.
at no point did google / youtube suggest to me that "Obama is a former president of the USA" and they'd rather direct me to fake info.
I know this is only one example but it shows how deep the problem is, I think it might be bigger than web spam and copyright infringement as there as so many gray areas.
in other REAL news: The UK govenment, Guardian newspaper and UK Channel 4 TV station have pulled all advertising from YouTube claiming:
The government has removed its adverts from YouTube amid concerns they are appearing next to "inappropriate" material on the video-sharing site.
The Cabinet Office said it was seeking assurances from YouTube's owner Google that its messages would be displayed in a "safe and appropriate way" in future.
The Guardian and Channel 4 have also pulled ads citing similar worries.
Google, which has been attacked by MPs for not doing more to curb online hate speech, said it would review controls.
