Hello All,

What's your take on the substantial block of duplicate contents within the same domain without ‘deceptive’ or ‘manipulative’ intend? I understand that the duplicate content has less impact within the same domain than it will have across different domains. Also, it's a manual penalty involving real humans since algorithm only tries to pick one preferred URL to index from a cluster of identical contents within a domain when there’s no rel=canonical or noindex specified.

So, what's your personal experience working with sites that don't intend to manipulate Google's ranking but try to serve users with desired results? For example, there's an online tutoring site which has Tutor A who specializes in subjects like Math and Chemistry and is available for private tutoring in Poplar and Greenwich

Is that ok to use Tutor A’s bio (snippet) to on the below URLs along with various other Tutors’?
example.com/math-tutors
example.com/chemistry-tutors
example.com/math-tutors-poplar
example.com/math-tutors-greenwich
example.com/chemistry-tutors-poplar
example.com/chemistry-tutors-greenwich

All these URLs will only have a substantial block of content duplicated which is nothing but a snippet taken from Tutor A’s profile page. I can see that this is how many of the sites in my niche are working. Maybe that's the case with many of listing/directory sites as well.

Here's what I extracted from Google’s duplicate guidelines page,

Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely matches other content or are appreciably similar.
Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results.
In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved

I’m not clear about the deceptive part but I’m sure there’s nothing deceptive, tricky in my case. I haven't noticed any deindexation but the ranking of these pages are mostly in the 2nd and 3rd page which I don't think have any direct connection with what Google says as 'As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results'

Thanks for your help and valuable suggestions.
