Revive Old domains or use new domains

A quick question for the experts here.
Many years ago(circa 2010 to 2012/13), I had several domains. These were of the variety:
myBrandKeyword.country
e.g.
myBrandKeyword.com.mx
myBrandKyeword.es
etc.
These sites were then hit by Panda on occasion and I lost interest in these sites. Eventually, I just about gave up on these sites and let the registration expire.
Today, I've renewed interest in these sites (at least the value proposition they represent) and I believe I can work on these successfully.
My question is:
if the above domains are available, should I use them.
Or should I use something else instead may be
myBrandKeyword.com
and then subdomain those:
mx.ByBrandKeyword.com
es.ByBrandKeyword.com etc.

I don't think there's any link juice left in the old domains, so I'll have to start link building afresh.
The only plus I see is that since I've existing Analytics accounts, it might be a quicker way to get these sites into the index.

A few questions to consider...

Did anyone register the domains while they were expired and use them for a spam project?
What is the plan to produce better pages so they aren't hit again by Panda?
Do you have enough resources to take care of these new sites and still maintain your existing sites?

I know, that age of domain matters, but if it isn't trusted, you'd better create new
