Since a bunch of our members are currently at Pubcon, let's talk about the ideas and helpful tips that are being discussed. Some of these might not even be new ideas but reminders since there is so much involved in baking the perfect SEO recipe. So what lesson are you taking away from Pubcon?

I'll drop in a couple.

Penguin is now full rolled out, as per Gary Illyes.

I have fond memories of going to PubCon in the past and knew that it was just recently over.
I thought I'd Google around to see what bloggers had recapped about the sessions they attended.
I blindly just clicked the first link I saw from a respected SEO website.
My mouth dropped open as I read through the outline. I couldn't believe what I was reading. How was it possible I was missing out on these techniques. Things I wasn't doing because I though they would get me in trouble with Google.
Then I smartened up and looked at the article's date. 2008.
Funny and a great blast from the past.

Unfortunately I learned nothing. That was because things got crazy on my end and I couldn't make it. Would have been my first, and I was really looking forward to it. That said, the notes and comments on the event have a few nuggets to be mined and will be injected on a few sites in the near future.

I wasn't at PubCon this year either, but, on the PubCon blog itself, Lise Barone's live blog of the Gary Illyes keynote gives a good overview of the official Google search announcements. Some of these topics are already under discussion in individual threads here....

As engine suggests above, pay attention to rich snippets... and Gary suggests that this should include the mobile version of your site.

Also, Gary doesn't really push you to read the Rater Guidelines, but he does suggest at least skimming them. I do push members here to look at them more thoroughly than skimming....

martinibuster has posted in that thread some key insights to be gotten from the guidelines, and I recommend reading his post and his article.
