The old Penguin is starting to seem a little slow these days, and according to John Meuller, Google is working on an announcement.

It's unclear what that announcement might be, but, to talk about it is something more than we've heard in a while. It's been a long while since the last penguin escaped.

Dear Google
I can offer to help you out with a draft for such an announcement.
I will try to keep it in your usual laid back non-evil style and not make any promises:

Dear Webmasters
Regarding that Penguin update we mentioned we were working on some time ago.
Today the Google Penguin update is exactly one day closer then it was yesterday.
Cheers
Google

:-)

It must be very difficult to update Penguin at this point.
My main website has gained several links from nasty XXX websites and other completely unrelated stuff - I should be punished?.
I presume this must be some kind of Negative SEO attempt.
I am worried that only a fraction of this stuff is showing in Google Webmaster Consol.

I really hope that 'Rank Brain' learns fast - it might decide to delete the Penguin Filter.
Perhaps that would be the most intelligent thing to do at this point.

So what did Penguin achieve?
Punish those who did purchase obvious paid links ? Yes, several business have gone under, many more are struggling to survive.
Stop paid links ? No, not according to the amount of request for natural looking paid article placement in my inbox.
