Reconciling Keyword in Domain Vs. # of Links in 2015 MOZ Rankings

Good day.

I've been working/training to become an SEO specialist and I was having a meeting with my boss about how in MOZ's 2015 rankings the number 1 and 2 signals are domain and page level links, and within those results number of links were number one factor followed by domain/page authority. My boss on the other hand insisted that keyword in the domain is more important. Would anybody be able to help reconcile this difference. Is MOZ wrong and domain level keywords which are listed #7 should be first or is MOZ right and we should focus on link building and not worry about keywords; at the domain level.

Thank you very much, my apologies if the question seems too trivial.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, carlos0218!

It is important to understand that Search Engine Ranking Factors 2015 from moz site are based on opinions of 150 search marketeers and on moz ranking correlation study.

Bearing this in mind, there is no "right" or "wrong" answer to what you are asking. Furthermore, the influence of a particular ranking factor may be different in different niches, in different languages and it will depend on competitivnes of search query too.
