I'm watching my niche closely right now as I monitor changes I made recently and I'm seeing new competition, in the form of old forum posts dated 2006-2013. These forums didn't break the top 10 until recently but are now ranked more highly, right up to #1.

There's nothing new about the sites, the forums or the posts, they are old, but one thing stands out when looking at the titles of all the top ranked posts. The titles are virtually all questions. 'How do I do such and such with widgets' or 'should I get this widget or that widget' type threads abound. My niche is informational but about an activity done with a product and none of the transactional type search terms are returning forums highly, only the informational queries.

Are forum threads seeing a resurgence as of recently? If so, are threads with questions as titles performing best? 'How to do such and such' vs 'How do I do such and such' seems like a trivial difference but on forums where hundreds of threads are similar the questions are doing well in my niche. I'd love to hear from a forum owner on this,

I think it is less about forums being favored by Google and more about Google trying to rank results that better satisfy user intent. Having a page that has a question as the title tag and then provides a useful & detailed answer can be a good way to make users happy. That is just my theory.

Frustrating when the answer is about a much earlier version of the widget that you are enquiring about. I am with goodroi on the cause but I always wonder if there are more up to date answers that are being missed for some reason.

They are adapting to voice search which typically comes in the form of a questions vs typed search wnich involves as few words as possible needed to get there.

I quite often find answers in forums because it's the real world. However, improved control over dates would help greatly.

I'm off to do some research to explore that resurgence you mention.

The continuing fiddling with the algos sometimes brings things back. The real question is for how long?
