Google Says Voice Search App Is Now Smarter

Google has said its search app now understands some complex combinations, dates, and superlatives to understand the intend behind the users question.

I tried it using natural language and it was just fine. It tripped up on a few terms, but I was probably mumbling. Interestingly, I had the radio on in the background and it was listening for music, and found the album with the song that was playing. I'm going to have to be careful about background discussions!

I can't help but note that every single example given in the blog post is a trivia search...

hehehe, well, did you expect the long tail!

It is machine learning and uses the knowledge graph as a source.

As ever, its early days with machine learning, but it has worked reasonably well for some of the more challenging searches i gave it.

I have used dictation tools on a regular basis and they became much better over recent times, so there's no reason why this shouldn't work.
