Google maps link from Google search results

New poster here. Thanks for everyone's insight.

I've got a question regarding Google search results. I'm designing a website for a tour company in <a place> <US state>. When I go to Google and do a search for <US state> <tour type>, underneath the two paid Adwords ads, the very first listing that comes up has not only their phone number and address show up, but links to their individual tours. Plus there is also a a small target link to their position on Google maps. I also note that they show up on the sidebar to the right of the search results.

Can someone please go to google, search for "<US state>" <tour type>" to see exactly what I'm talking about, and please advise me how they are accomplishing this feat?

Thank you for your input!

Hello ghostgeek and welcome to the Forums!

Sorry I had to edit your post to remove identifying details as new members are not allowed to post specifics and in any case, as this would identify a company leading possibly to a site review, we might have removed specifics in this case anyway.

To allow others to understand what you are seeing is that the first organic listing on the left hand side has map marker with the town and US state and phone number next to it and on the right hand side there is a box with a map with a marker, underneath is a company name (not identical to search terms) and down-arrow with words "More about <company name>".

When the arrow is clicked, the box expands and presents a typical one-box showing company details with the address, phone, opening hours, 3-4 reviews with opening sentence showing only and below it "People also search for" heading with four thumbs underneath, search terms and links underneath thumbs.

How do they accomplish this? This would normally be seen when a particular company is very strong for the selected search terms so Google shows company details in the box on the right hand side Having updated places page may help with regards to what is shown in the box on the right.

Plus there is also a a small target link to their position on Google maps.
One point to add to the above excellent answer... the "small target link" on the map is probably a local listing that has asked Google to hide its address. Check on your example to see if that's the case.

This, well hidden in Google help....
A place that is in the local database but not on Maps will have the street portion of their address hidden. When searched their general location will be indicated on the map with a round indicator instead of the more precise tear drop indicator. The general indicator will be in the approximate centre of their service area.

The link below is the best I can come up with, as Google appears to have completely disabled the conventional linking in its forums... and our WebmasterWorld redirect script breaks the hash tags Google uses... so you need to copy this and paste it into your address bar....

I suspect that the round service area indicator may be coincidental in this case, but that may depend on your actual business location. Service area rankings are considered to be more difficult to get than rankings based on actual physical address. In this case, as aakk9999 describes it, the strength of the company for organic terms and the setup on the places page would both be factors.
