This page is telling me to "losslessly compress" my PNG social media buttons:

[developers.google.com...]

But when I run optipng on them, it says they are "already optimized". I even tried changing one to JPG but Google still tells me to losslessly compress it. What do they want me to do here?

Page Speed Insights is a great tool but too many webmasters become too obsessed with this automated tool.

This tool was designed to help webmasters make urls faster. It wasn't designed to give perfect and smartest speed improvements to every single url in existence. I wouldn't worry about following every single recommendation they make. Several of their recommendations may only make a negligible improvement to page speed. You do not need to score 100% on page speed insights so do not worry about trying to achieve 100% score.

Focus on the general concept of making your pages as fast as possible which improves the user experience. At a certain point your efforts are better spent improving the value of your content instead of recoding or compressing something to save 20 bytes or .003 seconds.

Try to get all green lights in Page Speed Insights and don't obsess with needing a 100% perfect score.

The Google PageSpeed Tool provides you with the optomised images in a download link on the same page.

Thanks to both of you! The optimized images are indeed on the page.
