Hello,

I have a separate sub-domain for my mobile website and I was wondering if the titles and meta descriptions have to be the same as my desktop version of my website?

Thanks,

John Mueller was asked this a couple of months back just before the mobile update at Webmaster Central Hangouts. Worth trying to locate the video for accuracy. I think if your mobile site has the same content redirected via 301 to sub-domain then yes keep it the same.

Why would you want to alter the description of the content? If your removing functionality then fair play.

Hello intravenous,
Recently, Google has launched its updated on Responsive web design that it would be considered as a ranking factor by it. So if you are planning to make the same descriptions for your mobile website instead of making it responsive then it can create problems for you. So in my opinion you should make it responsive and prevent yourself from being a victim of selecting duplicate title and descriptions. Google Consider it as duplicate as there are two versions of it.

I don't do SEO for a living and even I know your post is complete bs regarding responsive over a separate mobile page.

Whoever told you that responsive design was likely a ranking factor was lying to you. Suggest you develop better sources.
