Did Google turned of the feature of searching de-localized by using the country name as search location?

It seems to be broken in Europe where you see localized SERPs (for a city) if you use the country name as location.

What's about the U.S. search? Broken as well?

Are you located in the same country you use as a country name in your search? If you are, you may be served results local to you. E.g. searching from Paris for "widgets France" is more likely to give you widgets around Paris whereas searching from Portugal for "widgets France" is more likely to give you widgets around France, not just around Paris.

Yes, in Germany it's either broken or they disabled this feature. In the past you could choose "Deutschland" as location and you got "de-localized" results.

Hi aakk9999,

as doc_z and seoskunk reported as well I'm not talking about using a country name as a search term but rather using the location filter under search tools.

Before last week, you could enter the country name as location under search tools (on a SERP) to get rid of localized (that is regionalized based on your profile or google attempt to localize your IP) SERPs. That is broken right now.

Anyhow, using google.com instead of google.de is still working - I'm seeing no localized results.

De-localized SERPs are coming back. When entering "Deutschland" as location I'm getting non-local results as before. It seems that Google fixed it.
