301 ReDirect for old exact match domains

Have some old exact match domains for popular keywords that are not getting traffic anymore. I've included Canonical links in my primary domain long time ago and now it's time to 301 those useless exact domains to my primary domain.

Just wondering if there is anything else that I need to consider once I implement the 301's? Should I keep the Canonical links on my primary domain for awhile or is it safe to remove them?

Anything else that I may be missing, SEO wise?

Thanks-in-Advance,

John

If a domain has no traffic and I assume no backlinks, there really isn't a reason to 301 redirect it. There really isn't a reason not to be safe and do a 301 redirect just in case you get traffic in the future.

As for canonical links on your primary domain, it has shouldn't have anything to do with a 301 redirect coming in from another domain. Just make sure you avoid/minimize having multiple 301 strings (page A redirects to page B which redirects to page C etc.)

Thanks goodroi, the reason I want to 301 redirect is to remove the website from our web hosting VPS plan to save space and processing resources.
