Hi we run a small entertainment site. I just checked the most popular landing pages via Google, in Google Analytics and found that most of the articles are older articles like xyz.com/title-of-the-page

My newer articles just don't appear in the date. They have a longer url xyz.com/celebrities/celeb-name/news/title-of-the-page

Could the longer url be a reason for Google not showing these new pages in their SERPs?

How to fix this issue? Kindly assist. Thanks!

While a path length is not generally a problem, if you are u p against sites with more authority you will have difficulty in placing.

Personally I opt for the shortest url possible so that it displays in full in any of the SEs. If you can modify in that regard without difficulty, it might be a place to start. However, again, your new material might not be sufficient to offset a better authority site's placement.

/celebrities/celeb-name/news/title-of-the-page

This path length suggests the possibility that you may somewhere have multiple urls for the same article. I'm not saying you do.... just that I see the possibility suggested by this url.

Hi thanks for the replies. I don't have multiple urls for the same article, just one. For some reason when I examine the landing pages from Google search on my site, the newer articles are like 1-2 out of every 10 articles!

What else should I check? Thnks again!

Wouldn't their newness in-and-of-itself be a positive factor? At least, ahem, in the case of celebrity gossip (assuming you didn't just make that up and your site's really about Roman antiquities).

But it's a very crowded space and "exclusives" don't last very long. Hard to compete, specially for "breaking" news.
