Google algo problems, how to ask for help, re-inclusion?

My site is in good standings with Google.

According to webmaster tools, it ranks very well, top 5 for tons of relevant terms, however the stats are off by hundreds and sometimes 1000's of positions...

I has always ranked well since early 2000's

But now tanking for no apparent reason. I had some bad links, got rid of them , did everything.

Nothing is working.

So how do I tell Google to look into this?

I suspect an algo glitch.

Thanks

This is because of personalisation. It means that for searches where the site had impression in SERPs, it ranked well. But in many searches for the same keywords it did not have any impressions.

For example, if I have personalised results in a such a way that Google shows me your site at #3 when I search for relevant keywords, but your personalisation (or search without any personalisation) results in your site being on page #10 for the same search, then the result will be that the report in WMT will show a good ranking (based on my personalised impressions at #3) but when you search for the site, it is out by 100s of positions since the site had no impressions at all when, should the other visitor paginated, would have found it on page 10.

You say you suspect an algo glitch - how long has it been going on? Can you pinpoint when the tanking started, also, is it gradual of have you just dropped suddenly?

What is happening with your traffic? When you say the site is tanking, are you refering to ranking or traffic or both?

How do you know they were bad links?

Did the Google Webspam Team share that tidbit with you?

I have a fairly good understanding of Advertising Links (paid links) also commonly known as unnatural links and Editorial Links also commonly known as natural links but I don't claim to understand which is which for Google.

If you thought you were getting rid of bad links but instead you got rid of links Google never detected as BAD that would be your problem.

Can't say it was but can't say it wasn't either.

In my opinion, most considered bad links by webmasters are nothing to worry about. We have thousands of links from scrapers and spam sites that link freely. Google ignores all that noise; no need to disavow those link. Even if someone tried to send you "#*$!" and "viagra" links, Google will very likely ignore it.

Now, if you have a smart spammer as a competitor, he will do what they did to us. Point the real bad links that can tank a site. If you start finding your site linked from Vietnamese, Polish, Ukrainian and Turkish sites with the anchor text being the keywords you want to rank to, then you have a REAL problem.

So yeah, most webmasters don't need to worry about "bad" links; it's noise that Google ignores.
